fall
Fall has arrived in Oklahoma, but hay season is still in full swing. We still have about a couple hundred acres to mow and bale. It's going to be a late and long season of baling this year, but we aren't complaining. We have winter wheat in full bloom and are running about 500 head of calves on it now.

The guys have finished up baling for the day, but their day is far from done. They have about 700 big bales in the field to haul in, so it might be a long night. We are excited about the chance for rain in the forecast for next week. It looks like our chances are best on Monday, but we will take whatever we can get. Any moisture at this point will boost the bermuda on up there and make us that much closer to the second cutting.
Have a great weekend.

Wayne and Morgan have been in the hay fields all day. They came in late this evening to make some repairs on the drop deck of the big baler that groups and drops the bales in threes in the field. I think they have it up and going again and will be heading back to the field, probably til the wee hours of the morning. It was good to see some hay customers today. It's always nice to visit for a few minutes and see some hay leaving the place. It sure looks pretty on the trailer. I better get back to the younger kids. Trying to keep them entertained with some hot dogs and marshmallows on the fire pit this evening. They get a little antsy during these summer evenings. This isn't travel season for us like it is for most, so we try to create our own home grown fun.
Thanks for checking in on us and God Bless!

Well, we still haven't seen much moisture. We are looking to get some on Monday so the Bermuda will finish growing for the second cutting. The guys are in the field today bailing some of our new land. I just came from running them more Baler twine and figured I should post, since I haven't in a while. The hay is starting to move. A few locals have been picking up their small orders and a semi is due in on Friday night. SO, if you want some of the first cutting of rye/bermuda mix let us know. Ball season is also in full swing, so the farmer's wife is staying busy, busy.

Dreary day
It has been a dreary cool day on the farm. We got a few very brief showers, but they didn't amount to much. The guys have stayed busy in the fields applying fertilizer and finishing up some new plantings.
This is a picture of my husband, Wayne, and six year old, Dawson, standing in one of the fields that was no till drilled with oats this winter as we were mowing for the first cutting. That stand was about shoulder height on Wayne and he's about 5'8". Sure made a pretty field.
This is the same field from behind the mower. Lots of grass!!

Hay season is in full swing on the Morey farm. The first cuttings of hay are all in the barn and we are anxiously awaiting and ready for the second cuttings. With the addition of land this year, the guys are spending any extra time sprigging new Bermuda fields. We have 3x3x8 bales of rye/bermuda mix and 21 bale bundles of the small bales.
